Position: Construction Safety Site Supervisor (Field Based)
Location: City of Poughkeepsie

Overview

ERM is hiring a Construction Safety Site Supervisor in Rome, NY to provide on-site support for our key manufacturing client. In this critical role, you will be responsible for leading a safety team for construction activities, engaging with project and construction leaders, and ensuring health and safety compliance with applicable regulations and existing company standards. You will be present during all site activities and responsible for all health and safety activities,and the delegation of duties to other project team members.

This is full-time (40 hours per week), limited-term role with a duration of 1 year, extendable.

Responsibilities:

The Construction Safety Site Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing all safety aspects of the construction site during the installation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Core

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Enforce Safety Plans:
    Create, implement, and enforce site-specific safety plans, programs, and procedures.

  • Conduct Inspections and Risk Assessments:
    Perform regular, documented site inspections and ongoing risk assessments to identify potential hazards associated with heavy machinery operation, lifting/rigging, and general construction activities.

  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance:
    Monitor the site to ensure full compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA), maintaining all required records and documentation.

  • Provide Training and Orientation:
    Conduct safety orientations for new workers and subcontractors, lead daily safety briefings/toolbox talks, and provide specific training on safety procedures such as lockout/tag-out (LOTO), confined space entry, and fall protection.

  • Manage Equipment Safety:
    Ensure all heavy equipment and machinery undergo regular inspections by qualified personnel or engineers, are properly maintained, and are operated only by trained and authorized workers.

  • Oversee Personnel Safety:
    Verify that all personnel are using and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and following established safe work practices for their tasks.

  • Incident Management:
    Document, investigate, and report all workplace incidents, near-misses, and injuries to determine root causes and implement effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Coordinate with Stakeholders:
    Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries, collaborating with project managers, subcontractors, and safety inspectors to address concerns and promote a strong safety culture.

  • Manage Emergency Preparedness:
    Identify foreseeable emergency scenarios (e.g., fires, spills, machinery accidents) and develop, communicate, and drill emergency response plans.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in construction, with a focus on sites involving heavy equipment and machinery, including prior supervisory or leadership experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related degree preferred.

  • Relevant industry certifications are essential. Common examples in the U.S. include those from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) (e.g., CSP or CHST) or OSHA Safety Certificate/Degree Programs (e.g., OSHA 30-hour Construction).

  • Thorough knowledge of Federal and State OSHA regulations (specifically 29 CFR 1926 for construction) and industry best practices for heavy equipment, rigging, and electrical safety.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; the ability to read blueprints and technical documents; and strong leadership abilities to manage and motivate diverse teams.

Pay Transparency

For the Construction Safety Site Supervisor (Field Based) position, we anticipate the yearly salary of $134,370- $159,499 (hourly $64.60– $76.68), limited-term, non-exempt. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.
