Amity Construction Corp. in Poughkeepsie is hiring Heavy Equipment Operators to drive and control heavy machinery - such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and skid steers — to excavate, grade, and move earth or materials on construction sites and road projects. Key responsibilities include performing pre/post-operation safety inspections, routine maintenance, ensuring site safety compliance, and communicating with crew members.
Core Responsibilities
● Machine Operation: Safely operate heavy machinery (e.g., bulldozers, backhoes, loaders, excavators, dump trucks) to excavate, load, move materials, dig around utilities, and trenching for pipe work.
● Maintenance: Perform daily inspections and routine maintenance (checking fluids, greasing, cleaning) to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
● Site Preparation & Safety: Grade, excavate, and prepare surfaces for construction; follow all safety regulations, including identifying underground or overhead utilities.
● Coordination: Use hand signals or radios to coordinate actions with ground crew members.
● Reporting: Document daily operational activity in logs.
Required Skills and Qualifications
● Experience: Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment.
● Physical Strength: Ability to lift over 50 lbs and perform manual labor in varied, often harsh, weather conditions.
● Technical Knowledge: Mechanical aptitude for identifying equipment malfunctions.
● Communication: Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members.
● Licensing: OSHA 10.
