Job Description:
The Department of Physical Sciences, Engineering, and Technology (PSET) at DCC invites applications for a Tenure-Track faculty position in Engineering Science with a specialization in Mechanical Engineering. This position has an expected start date in August 2026.
The PSET Department seeks a student-centered educator to join our faculty as a full-time Mechanical Engineering instructor. The successful candidate will teach a range of engineering courses, including:
Introduction to Engineering;
Engineering Seminar;
Computer Programming for Engineers;
Engineering Statics;
Dynamics; and Mechanics of Materials. The successful candidate may also be asked to teach courses in calculus-based or algebra-based physics, including lectures and labs.
Strong candidates will be individuals who are committed to the education of future engineering and those who are interested in working with a team of other educators in science and technology. As such, the successful candidate will have experience mentoring freshman and sophomore-year students.
Primary responsibilities include:
* Teach classes in Engineering Science.
* Develop and revise course curricula to reflect current industry trends and academic standards, including laboratory exercises using existing materials and facilities.
* Incorporate technology and experiential learning into classroom instruction.
* Assess student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback to students.
* Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
* Participate in departmental meetings, college-wide committees, and engage in campus community events.
* Participate in assessment activities and professional development.
* Contribute to program development through curriculum development, recruitment efforts, and community outreach.
* Maintain regular office hours and provide academic support to students.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
* Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Science, or a closely related field.
* Official transcripts required upon hire.
* College level teaching experience in engineering science.
* Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
* An appreciation for diversity for all types and how diversity impacts learning and instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
* Ph.D. in Engineering or related field.
* Experience teaching at a community college.
* Experience in writing and developing course curricula, including developing hands-on learning exercises.
* Demonstrated competencies in a variety of teaching methodologies and/or pedagogical approaches that reach a broad range of learners.
* Teaching experience includes both in-person and online modalities.
* An understanding and appreciation of the role of the community college in higher education.
* Experience in using instructional technology in the classroom and a willingness to adopt new and emerging technologies.
* Experience and familiarity with a learning management system (LMS) such as Brightspace, Blackboard, or Canvas.

Tenure-Track Faculty - Engineering Science is a full-time, permanent position.

* Professional letters of reference are required.
New tenure-track full-time faculty with a terminal degree will normally be appointed at the rank of assistant professor, as per the college's Professional Staff Handbook.

Full-Time faculty positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Dutchess Community College (DCC) and Dutchess United Educators (DUE).
Salary:
$68,145 - $88,601, commensurate with experience and terminal degree.
