Position Title:

Assistant Professor of Social Work & Sociology

$75,000 - $80,000

Job Summary:

We are seeking candidates with an earned doctorate in Social Workor Sociology, or a Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) by Fall 2027. The successful candidate also will have earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW). Areas of specialization are open, and the department is interested in providing students with opportunities to understand the application of social work principles to contemporary social issues, behavioral health, research methods,and public policy.

We seek dynamic faculty who are student-centered and model the knowledge, skills and values necessary for ethical practice.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in Social Work or Sociology, or DSW, by Fall of 2027
  • MSW (from a CSWE accredited program)
  • Two years post-MSW practice experience
Essential Functions:

Applicants should be flexible with regard to teaching assignments and confident in their abilities to teach courses within theirareas of expertise, as well as core courses such as, Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Social Work, Social Research Methods,and Practicum Seminar. We welcome candidates who will place an emphasis on active learning and quality teaching in a smallclassroom setting and who can thoughtfully incorporatesociocultural perspectives and the experiences of individuals and communities from a range of backgrounds into their teaching.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability tocommit to contributing to a learning environment that welcomesvaried perspectives and facilitates student learning in ethical,inclusive, and effective social work practice. The successful candidate will also have a promising and active research agendathat leads to peer reviewed publications and presentations.

In summary, essential duties include:

  • Undergraduate instruction with an expectation of competence inthe use of instructional technology
  • Responsible for academic advisement of students
  • Participation in departmental activities

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience teaching at the college level.
