Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Organic Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry at Vassar College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Organic Chemistry, beginning in Fall 2027. The successful candidate will establish an active and inclusive undergraduate research program and contribute to the development and teaching of the Organic Chemistry curriculum.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education, inclusive teaching and mentoring, and the ability to establish an active, engaging undergraduate research program. Candidates should have the ability to teach organic chemistry lecture and laboratory courses, as well as the department's upper-level Integrated laboratory course.
We welcome applications from candidates with research expertise spanning the broad field of organic chemistry and particularly encourage applications from those whose research focuses on physical organic chemistry, nano- and meso-scale materials, polymers, or bioorganic chemistry. Opportunities exist to develop upper-level courses in the candidate's area of expertise and to contribute to interdisciplinary programs, including Biochemistry and Environmental Studies. The teaching load is four courses during the first year of the appointment.
Thereafter, faculty teach four courses per academic year while mentoring undergraduate research or other forms of intensive student scholarship. The successful candidate will receive competitive startup funds, dedicated laboratory space, and access to shared departmental instrumentation and research facilities.

Pay Transparency Disclosure:
The annual base starting salary range for this position is $96,000 to $106,000 (USD). This range includes new faculty appointments beginning the first year of a standard tenure clock as well as Assistant Professors with previous tenure-line experience who will be on an accelerated tenure clock. When extending an offer of employment, Vassar College considers factors such as (but not limited to) candidate's education/training, work experience, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations.
This salary range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting. The starting salary for an Assistant Professor in this position with a PhD beginning the first year of a standard tenure clock in Fall 2027 is $100,000.
