Environmental Engineer, Environmental Compliance
Location: City of Poughkeepsie
ERM is hiring Environmental Permitting Advisors to support key client operations in either Albany, Syracuse or Buffalo, NY. The role holders will be responsible for managing environmental licensing and permitting activities for electric and gas projects to ensure compliance with applicable local, state and federal environmental requirements. This includes ensuring applicable local, state, and federal environmental requirements are communicated and implemented for a variety of projects from project initiation through design and construction.
This is a full‑time (40 hours per week) limited‑term role with a duration of 1 year, extendable.
- Review electric, gas and facility capital improvement projects and facility modifications to evaluate potential impacts on the environment and the need for regulatory permits and/or authorizations.
- Oversee clients’ field operations, including the management and documentation of site visits, to monitor and facilitate compliance with applicable local, state, federal and company requirements.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding current and proposed federal, state and local regulations and clients’ Environmental Procedures to ensure client is compliant with environmental legislation and regulations.
- Train and motivate engineering and specifically corporate‑based personnel to comply with all applicable federal, state and local environmental regulations, and clients’ Environmental Procedures. This includes providing technical guidance, support and coaching to share knowledge and develop technical understanding of environmental requirements.
- Successfully manage permitting within project schedules.
- Review and manage environmental aspects of projects during design and construction.
- Effectively communicate with peers and regulators.
- Work independently, manage priorities, and organize workloads with moderate guidance.
- Build strong working relationships with Operations, Engineering, Project Management, Construction, Legal, Real Estate, Safety and other personnel to share best practice and communicate business decisions.
- Manage high work volumes and apply sound problem‑solving skills to obtain, research and analyze data; draw inferences; and make recommendations to client’s personnel and service providers.
- A Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental/civil engineering, or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience, must demonstrate proficiency in Article VII, and basic understanding of the new Article VIII.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation.
- Extensive knowledge of environmental licensing and permitting regulatory requirements.
- Project management experience.
- Familiarity with GIS.
For the Environmental Permitting Advisor position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $103,967 – $132,573 – $49.98 /hr – $63.73 /hr USD, limited-term, non‑exempt. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue‑based metrics, and business or organizational needs.
This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/Flexforce employees are not bonus eligible).

Benefits eligibility is limited to regular employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week.
