As an Electric Substation Design Engineer, you will perform engineering assignments related to planning, scoping, design, and project construction management of Central Hudson’s electric substation projects. Your role includes carrying small and medium ESD projects from start to finish, managing cost estimates, work order authorization, DIG approval, equipment and site technical specifications, the bidding and selection process, equipment ordering, contractor selection, drawing markup and completion, wire‑checking, and transmittal to Substation Operations.
On project completion, you will approve as‑built changes, file the project and instruction books, and perform all duties while ensuring safety for yourself, colleagues, and the public.
Your work will involve:
- Developing plans and designs that align with safety and corporate procedures.
- Demonstrating technical knowledge in Electric Substation Design and identifying innovative solutions to engineering problems.
- Collaborating with Electric System Protection and Substation Operations to carry out projects and produce constructible work packages.
- Sharing technical information, providing guidance, and training on complex topics to other employees.
- Incorporating unscheduled projects into your work plan without negatively impacting existing goals.
- Representing Central Hudson in industry activities and organizations such as NYISO, EPRI, NYSRC, and NPCC.
- Communicating issues and recommendations clearly to peers, supervisors, and managers.
- Providing support for storm restoration efforts.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and quantitative skills.
- Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills for independent and collaborative work.
- Inter‑personal skills to maintain effective relationships with customers, colleagues, and external partners.
- Flexibility to multitask and operate under pressure in a fast‑paced work environment.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills with an innovative mindset.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
- Field of study focused on power.
- Experience working in the regulated utility industry.
Pay range: $82,600–$196,100.
