Performs imaging procedures and assists in the performance of interventional mammographic procedures and assists in biopsy procedures.

• Assists physicians and performs quality imaging using fixed and mobile equipment throughout the hospital.
• Performs radiography of pathologic breast specimens and practices aseptic techniques.
• Provides or assists with physical breast inspection or palpation.
• Corroborates patient’s clinical history with the procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for a licensed practitioner.
• Prepares patients for procedures and explains the nature of each exam, giving proper instruction before, during, and after procedures.
• Evaluates images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded.
• Assists physicians and radiology nurses in cases of adverse reaction to contrast media or acute emergencies as required.
• Reviews the status and type of procedure for patients and coordinates exams with other imaging department sections to ensure proper sequencing, maximize equipment utilization, and minimize patient wait time.
• Protects patients, employees, and self from excessive exposure and follows “As Low As Reasonably Achievable” (ALARA) guidelines at all times.
• Maintains neatness, cleanliness, and sanitation in department work areas and equipment, tracking the use of supplies and restocking when needed.
• Actively participates in activities that promote safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and professional development.
• Ensures accurate, timely, and professional communication with supervisors, co‑workers, physicians, patients, and all hospital guests, ensuring timely delivery of appropriate high‑quality services.

• Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
• Performs other duties as required.

• Minimum two (2) years of college or technical training.
• Minimum of one (1) year radiology experience.
• Three (3) to six (6) month training period if no mammography experience.

• Maintains competency and proficiency with imaging procedures, including complicated exams and/or equipment, by utilizing reading material and attending in‑service programs.
• General knowledge of a specialized or technical field normally associated with an AA or AS degree.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• NYS Radiologic Technologist License.
• American Registry or Radiologic Technology Certification, Mammography (M).

• Manual:
  Significant manual skills/motor coordination & finger dexterity.

  Significant occupational risk.
• Physical Effort:
  Very heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force.
• Physical Environment:
  Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
