Anticipated
Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped (SLP preferred) GENERAL STATEMENTThe Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and providing direct speech, language, and hearing intervention to students with communication disorders. Operating within the educational environment, this position collaborates with multidisciplinary school teams, teachers, and families to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that support students' academic, social, and functional success.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT- Full-time, 10-month, tenure track assignment.

SUPERVISES: N/A
Qualifications, Experience and Required Competencies- Education:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, or Special Education. - Certification:
Active state certification as a Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) or Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD). - Experience:
12 years in a K12 school setting, including direct IEP development and implementation (practicum/CFY experience considered).
- Clinical Credentials:
Master's in SLP, active State SLP License, and ASHA CCC-SLP (Clinical Fellows welcome).
- Diagnostic & IEP Mastery:
Skilled in administering standardized evaluations, identifying service eligibility, and crafting measurable IEP goals aligned with core standards. - Clinical Expertise:
Knowledgeable in language development, articulation, fluency, voice, and Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. - Collaboration & Communication:
Adept at translating evaluation data into actionable learning strategies and partner effectively with parents, teachers, and multidisciplinary teams. - Cultural Responsiveness:
Ability to differentiate speech-language impairments from second-language acquisition or cultural differences.
Skills AND ABILITIES
DUTIES AND Responsibilities
- Assessment & Evaluation:
Administer standardized evaluations to identify speech, language, and hearing disorders, determining eligibility for special education services. - IEP Development & Implementation:
Write clear, measurable Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, deliver direct/indirect therapy services, and maintain accurate compliance records. - Instruction & Support:
Provide target interventions for articulation, language, fluency, voice, and pragmatic skills, integrating assistive technology or AAC devices as needed. - Collaboration & Consulting:
Partner with classroom teachers, parents, and support staff to modify instructional materials and support speech-language carryover into the general curriculum. - Progress Monitoring:
Track student data, prepare quarterly progress reports, and present findings at CSE/IEP meetings. - Knowledge:
Deep understanding of child development, speech-language pathology, IDEA compliance, and educational legal mandates. - Skills:
Proficient in standardized diagnostic tools, IEP management software, AAC tech, and data-driven progress monitoring. - Abilities:
Ability to build strong rapport with diverse K12 students, translate complex clinical findings into plain language for families, and manage a varied caseload efficiently.
EVALUATION:
Program Coordinator
SALARY: $60,307 - $85,536 approximate ( BOCES Faculty Association contract)
