Summary/Primary

Role:

The Pathology Laboratory Assistant will provide administrative help in the laboratory as it relates to specimens and slides.

Principal

Duties & Responsibilities:

(Management may amend or assign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time)

  • Receives and accessions pathology laboratory specimens into the laboratory interface system (LIS)
  • Scans specimen grossing information into LIS
  • Handles special requests for IHC staining
  • Receives shipments of returned slides and prepares them for weekly QA
  • Files all slides and paperwork
  • Prepares/labels Cytology and Histology slides on a daily basis
  • Assists in scraping histology blocks
  • Prepares cases for second opinions and follows up on their return
  • Troubleshoots and resolves phone calls regarding patient specimen status, as well as handling department triages and faxing reports as needed
  • Generates accession logs
  • Organizes and maintains block and slide archive
  • Unpacks supplies
  • Charges the processor weekly
  • Perform urine dipsticks
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum education of a HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Must have experience with data entry and computers
  • Proficiency in Medical Terminology and previous related experience preferred
Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

Expected Hours of Work:

An Employee must work a minimum of thirty (30) hours each week to maintain full-time status for benefits purposes, however the expectations of the position will require an average of forty (40) hours with overtime required as scheduled. Non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws, while exempt employees may be required to work additional hours as necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities.

Overtime requirements will be determined based on the operational needs of the organization.

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining an employee’s base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity).

Premier Medical Group also offers a comprehensive set of benefits to compliment the base salary. The base hourly range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a clinical outpatient setting and routinely involves direct interaction with patients, providers, and clinical staff. The work environment may involve exposure to infectious disease, bodily fluids, medical equipment, cleaning agents, and varying patient conditions. Standard precautions, PPE, and adherence to safety protocols are required at all times.
