Overview

Under the direction of the VP/CNO, the position develops, implements, and monitors the patient care delivery system and related nursing practice standards in collaboration with the nursing management team. The role is responsible for the quality of patient care and provides leadership, planning, coordination, direction, and evaluation of operations. It is accountable for leading quality, financials, employee engagement, and patient experience in alignment with the organization’s strategic goals.

Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the VP/CNO, plan, organize, direct, and evaluate nursing practice standards for all units.
  • Assume 24/7 accountability for the supervision of personnel and facilitate optimal patient care through the appropriate use of resources to provide safe, quality care.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, feedback, and foster teamwork in a positive work environment to achieve quality services with a high level of employee engagement. Value and support diversity.
  • Lead and be accountable for reaching organizational goals. Provide recommendations to the VP/CNO for strategic growth targets.
  • Assume responsibility for effective fiscal management of the department to ensure proper utilization of financial resources, and demonstrate ability to analyze and understand data in order to support and justify business decisions.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary and interdepartmental communication for effective operation of clinical services. Work collaboratively with all internal and external constituencies.
  • Collaborate with Quality Department Leadership to ensure regulatory compliance with standards through policies and practices. Assume responsibility for the quality of services provided, including identification of performance improvement and patient safety opportunities, in addition to developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating quality and safety initiatives.
  • Assume responsibility for developing and maintaining an environment that supports service excellence, and act as a role model for staff, patient, and family interactions.
  • Foster an environment that encourages open communication. Assume responsibility for communication to ensure that information is shared for effective operations and to promote positive employee relations.
  • Where Collective Bargaining Agreements exist, partner with Human Resources to provide guidance for the nursing management team in maintaining a standardized approach to employee engagement and labor relations. Actively participate in labor relation negotiations and labor management activities.
  • Assume responsibility for personal and professional development to ensure current knowledge in the profession/position. Demonstrate ability to translate evidence‑based data into practice.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Professional Development to identify and develop educational programs to maintain the skill set of staff and foster professional growth.
  • In collaboration with the Department of Professional Development, support the participation of nursing leadership and staff in the shared governance model and act as a mentor and leader for nurses in their understanding of the shared governance model.
