Position: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department, Full Time Eve/Night

Summary

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care guided by the ANA scope of practice. The Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver healthcare services. She or he assesses the patient’s needs, plans care, implements and evaluates medical and nursing regimens in accordance with the hospital’s policies and national standards, demonstrating leadership skills and a commitment to professional growth.

Responsibilities

Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated.

Documents detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status.

Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care the patient is receiving, including transfer and discharge documentation as indicated.

Follows the five Rights of Medication Administration; verbalizes to patients and families the medication they are receiving; assesses the patient prior to administering medications, noting allergies, parameters, potential side effects, effectiveness, and intervenes as needed; reassesses and documents response according to hospital policy.

Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care, including the delegation of tasks.

Maintains accountability for care delegated.

Actively works to promote a culture of safety.

Assesses patients for potential safety risks.

Adheres to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety and initiates interventions related to identified risk factors.

Conducts bedside shift report and bedside rounds with peers at change of shift.

Demonstrates quality by documenting the application of the nursing process in a responsible, accountable, and ethical manner.

Assesses learning needs of patients, families, and significant others; plans and provides appropriate instruction using applicable teaching methods; assesses and documents response to teaching.

Cares for specific patient populations as necessary, regardless of location.

Delivers patient‑centered care, including:

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
Experience:

At least one year of Emergency Room RN experience.
License:
Current license issued by New York State to practice as a registered nurse. BLS and ACLS required.
Credentials: RN, BLS, ACLS.

Working Conditions

Manual: significant manual skills/motor coordination & finger dexterity.
