Location: City of Poughkeepsie
Heavy Equipment Operator/Driller Trainee (Quarry)
Hourly Rate: $20 - $22 per hour, plus stipend for travel.
Responsibilities- Perform job‑specific instruction from Superintendents, Blasting Supervisor or Drill Operators.
- Be safety‑mindful and work well in varying weather environments.
- Travel out of town and work overtime as required.
- Perform daily maintenance activities required for safe, efficient operation of assigned equipment.
- Adhere to Company Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Learn drill patterns and terminology and execute drill pattern and layout as established by the Blaster Foreman.
- Inventory accessories, understand cost of accessories, and maintain drill accessories.
- Communicate problems and terrain conditions to the Blaster/Foreman.
- Use the Field Accounting system and accurately complete and submit timely paperwork: drill reports, hole sheets, and a signed timecard.
- Maintain physical agility.
- Coordinate supplies with Blaster.
- Carry all tools and supplies.
- Participate in meetings as needed:
Foreman's, Safety, Job Specific, and Daily Heads‑Up. - Complete Driller I training within the designated period.
- Work unsupervised while maintaining a sense of urgency.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Equipment operating experience helpful (earth moving construction, farm equipment, timber harvesting, etc.).
- Valid driver’s license with own transportation.
- Experience as a construction laborer.
- High level of common sense regarding equipment and machinery operation.
- Mechanical aptitude based on past experience around equipment, motors, hydraulic, electrical systems.
- Must successfully pass ATF screenings.
- Perform essential functions of the position.
- Lift 50–100 lbs., 30–40% of the time.
- Work on uneven and loose surfaces in varying weather conditions.
- Stooping and bending 30–40% of the time.
- Maintain physical agility.
