Description:

An Astoria based General Contracting firm is currently seeking full-time Laborers. Looking for skilled and general laborers for fulltime, on-call and weekend work. Laborers make repairs and conduct maintenance of a construction site including keeping the building safe and clean, debris removal, and other tasks as assigned. Directly reporting to the Labor Foreman/Construction Superintendent this position is expected to adhere, maintain, and ensure all safety protocols are followed while performing duties.

This position is a Section 3 eligible job opportunity. Applicants with incomes 80% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) or residents of public housing are encouraged to apply.

This position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, lift a minimum of 75 lbs. Major attributes of the position are punctuality, professionalism within their field and ability to work overtime as needed.

• Move, secure, install, build, load or unload materials as directed
• Clean up rubble, debris and other waste materials to eliminate hazards.
• Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
• Lift heavy loads up to 75 lbs. and navigate through construction site
• Load and unload trucks
• Material handling and storage
• Dig pits, trenches and foundations in preparation for job site
• Back-fill trenches and pits when necessary
• Direct traffic when necessary to ensure safety of pedestrians, motorists, and work crew
• Knowledge of power tools and their uses

• 40-hr Site Safety Training (SST) card
• Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
• Able to work independently as well as part of an effective team
• Punctual and reliable
• Must be physically able to perform heavy construction work.
• Excellent written and communication skills
