A Driver is responsible for transporting clients from their pickup point to their destination in a timely and safe manner. The role includes performing pre-trip inspections, child checks post-route, and ensuring the vehicle remains within DOT regulations.
No CDL required. We provide paid CDL and passenger endorsement training at $15.97 per hour. Once fully credentialed, drivers receive $17.51 per hour. If you already have a CDL with a Passenger endorsement, your pay starts immediately at $17.51 per hour.
Working ConditionsDrivers spend approximately 90-95% of their time on the road, with additional time at sites, training, cleaning, and operational support.
Responsibilities- Ensure transportation and workplace safety policies comply with company, state, and federal regulations.
- Safely transport clients to and from programs in the mornings and afternoons.
- Obey all applicable vehicle and traffic laws.
- Perform pre and post-trip inspections of the bus before and after each run and report any defects to management.
- Keep the bus cleaned, fueled, and ensure fluids are topped off.
- Ensure the safety of all clients, including securing wheelchair-bound clients and operating the wheelchair lift.
- Keep routes updated and inform dispatch of any issues (e.g., running behind schedule).
- Clean the bus daily and use PPE properly.
- Report disciplinary issues to operations management for appropriate action.
- Assist clients with boarding and disembarking as needed.
- Be flexible and drive other vehicles and routes as required.
- Work collaboratively with monitors, operations staff, and customers.
- Attend periodic safety trainings.
- Be dependable and punctual.
- Perform all other job duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager or their designee.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver license.
- Valid NYS Drivers’ License – CDL Class “C” or higher with passenger endorsement or CLP.
- NYS-DMV 19A qualified (or ability to obtain).
- At least 21 years of age.
- Valid DOT medical card or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to pull and push 250 lbs. and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to sit for long periods and bend to secure wheelchair-bound clients.
- Empathy towards clients.
- Willingness to grow within the company.
- Transportation industry experience.
- Experience with transportation, logistics, or navigation software.
- Experience using electronics and tablets.
- Experience transporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
- First aid certification.
