Concrete Project Engineer

Job Overview

The Concrete Project Engineer will work within the Engineering Department and will be assigned to support Hoffman Structures, Inc. (HSI), Hoffman’s self‑performed structural concrete affiliate company. The position reports to the VP of Operations and works closely with the HSI Project Manager and HSI Project Superintendent. The role is based entirely on the Poulsbo, WA project site.

Salary Range: $78,000 – $135,000 + incentives

• Run meetings involving area managers, design team members, multiple subcontractors, and client representatives.
• Serve as the interface between area managers, multiple vendors, and subcontractors to help resolve field coordination items.
• Interpret design, construction documents, technical manuals, and quantify materials required for construction.
• Coordinate all structural concrete and rebar elements, including embeds supplied by others.
• Review and process submittal information and coordinate between multiple submittals to ensure accuracy and functionality of each component.
• Generate, receive, and distribute requests for information (RFI).
• Receive and distribute change documents issued by other team members.
• Field survey layout of control lines and benchmarks.
• Serve as the technical advisor at onsite field construction office.
• Coordinate architectural, structural, and MEP systems within the overall structural concrete project design.

• Professional Experience and Education
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience in structural concrete and rebar construction project engineering.
• Strong knowledge of concrete design, construction techniques, and materials.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering or an equivalent degree and/or extensive field‑work experience required.
• Education background in materials and methods of construction.
• Position‑Related Skills
• Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
• Experience with project management software such as Prolog, Procore, E‑Builder, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and Primavera P6.
• Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.
• Training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory and techniques.
• Experience in organizing technical data accurately; familiarity with CSI specification system.
• Strong visual observation and interpretation skills.
• Ability to maintain a cooperative attitude under high‑pressure situations.
• Excellent time‑management and multi‑tasking skills; ability to prioritize work amid frequent interruptions.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships.
• Ability to work closely with various trade and craft people in the field.
• Dedicated team player; ability to collaborate across departments and all leadership levels.
• Flexible work schedule to accommodate extended hours or off‑shift work.

• Standing/Walking/Sitting:
  Workday involves both stationary tasks and movement around the site.
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
• Must be able to climb stairs, ascend and descend ladders, scaffold, and inspect confined or underground spaces.
• Hands/Arms:
  Constant computer operation and other office machinery use.
• Sight:
  Close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus outdoors; must drive with a valid license.
• Hearing:
  Must work in proximity to loud equipment more than 75% of the time; hearing protection as needed.
• Speech:
  Ability to communicate regulations, protocols, and standard operating procedures in English.
• Lift/Carry:
  Ability to lift or manipulate fifty pounds to a height of three feet and carry or push it 50–100 feet.
• Bending/Twisting:
  Frequent.
• Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling:
  Regularly required to examine project work.
• Must access all areas and levels of the construction site for progress review.
• Work schedule must be flexible for extended hours or off‑shift work.
• Must use independent judgment, organizational, and critical‑thinking skills to determine best methods.
