Position Title Industrial and Systems Engineering in the Peninsulas - Non-Tenure Track Faculty Vacancy Pool About the University

Western Washington University is a public institution that was founded in 1893 and is comprised of about 15,000 students. It is recognized as the top public masters-granting university in the Pacific Northwest by US News & World Report. The Chronicle of Higher Education names Western as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, winning honors in two categories: teaching environment, and tenure clarity and process.

Western Washington University's presence on the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas includes academic centers in Bremerton, Poulsbo, and Port Angeles, developed in partnership with Olympic College and Peninsula College. These sites expand access to bachelor's degrees for place-bound students and support regional workforce needs. Current programs include Business Administration (Poulsbo), Cybersecurity (Poulsbo), Environmental Science and Environmental Studies (Port Angeles and Poulsbo), Natural Resource Management (Port Angeles and Poulsbo), Multidisciplinary Studies (all three sites), and Early Childhood and Elementary/Special Education (Bremerton).

About the College

The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) consists of eight academic departments:
Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Engineering and Design, Geology, Mathematics, and Physics and Astronomy. In addition to the academic departments, the college is home to Western's Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education (SMATE) program. Western has extensively invested in new facilities, instructional innovation, and the recruitment of world-class faculty for the sciences in recent years. Thus, students in the college are engaged in high-quality classroom, laboratory, and hands-on research experiences that foster deep foundational disciplinary knowledge as well as the tools to engage in the creation of new scientific knowledge.

The overall mission of CSE is to promote lifelong learning through state-of-the-art programs that emphasize experiential learning and scholarship, to produce globally impactful discoveries, innovation, and student-engaged research, to provide equitable and inclusive pathways in STEM for students to achieve their career goals in the State of Washington and beyond, and to engage with the broader community by building and sustaining strong regional academic, industrial, and other community partnerships.

About the Department

The Engineering & Design Department offers two ABET-accredited undergraduate degrees in Manufacturing Engineering (MFGE) and Materials Science & Engineering (MSE), along with a NASAD-accredited degree in Industrial Design. The Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) program is newly established and is expected to welcome its first cohort in Fall 2026. In addition, Western Washington University offers an ABET-accredited degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering (EECE) through the recently established EECE Department.

Guided by its mission, the Engineering & Design Department is dedicated to excellence in teaching and scholarship. Its programs emphasize creative problem-solving, analytical skill development, and experiential learning, preparing graduates to be industry-ready engineers and designers who can contribute immediately to regional and global innovation.

About the Position

The Department of Engineering & Design at Western Washington University invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position in support of the Industrial & Systems Engineering Program at Western on the Peninsulas. This is a new 2+2 Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering on the Peninsulas (ISE) designed to serve students on the Olympic Peninsula and the greater region.

The first two years of ISE program are completed through the Associate of Science - Track 2 (AS-T2) program at Olympic College or other regional AS-T2 granting institutions, followed by the final two years through WWU. ISE prepares graduates for careers with the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Amazon, logistics and supply chain organizations, healthcare systems, and other regional employers. The curriculum emphasizes systems design, data analytics, operations research, human factors, quality and continuous improvements, and project management, with strong integration of applied learning, hybrid course delivery, and industry-sponsored capstone projects.

The program is being developed with ABET accreditation as a central goal, ensuring rigorous academic preparation and industry recognition.

The Engineering & Design Department maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons interested in temporary teaching in ISE program. In anticipation of possible openings throughout the academic year and summer sessions, applications are accepted continuously for temporary, non-tenure track teaching positions on a part-time basis with occasional opportunities for temporary, full-time…
