Assistant Professor of Social Work and Director of Practice Education, WWU-Peninsulas
Western Washington University – Peninsulas (WWU-Peninsulas) invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in the newly established Master of Social Work program. The position is a 9‑month academic year assignment with optional summer teaching, starting on September 16, 2026. The primary work location will be Bremerton, WA or Poulsbo, WA.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and assess the MSW practicum experience, including student placement, agency selection, and progress monitoring.
- Recruit and maintain relationships with field practicum sites, ensuring high‑quality student experiences.
- Provide oversight and support for field faculty and seminar instructors, including training and evaluation.
- Coordinate the development and maintenance of MOUs, policies, handbooks, and assessment instruments for practicum sites.
- Advocate for students and act as a mediator for conflicts between students and agencies when resolution at the course or program level is not possible.
- Supervise and evaluate student progress through examiners and field supervisors.
- Support the overall MSW program by teaching courses across the curriculum, advising students, and participating in departmental and university service activities.
- Engage in scholarship and activities that promote the university’s mission of inclusivity, social justice, and community partnership.
- Doctorate in Social Work or a related field (PhD, DSW, ABD) – if ABD, completion of all degree requirements by June 15, 2027.
- MSW degree from a CSWE‑accredited program.
- Minimum of two years post‑MSW practice experience.
- Demonstrated record of scholarly activity in social work.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or equivalent clinical license.
- Proven teaching, scholarship, administrative experience, and community service record.
- Experience in curriculum and faculty development, and evaluation of instructional programs.
- Previous experience as Director of Field Practicum.
- Familiarity with social service agencies in Washington, especially the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas.
All employees must comply with Western Washington University’s immunization policy, including proof of Rubeola/Measles immunity within 60 days of hire. Salary range for the assistant professor appointment is $74,000–$95,500, with placement based on qualifications and experience. Relocation assistance may be available per university guidelines.
