Position: Academic/Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Tutor

Overview

PUSD is looking for AVID Tutors for the upcoming school year. Ideal AVID Tutors will be strong in Math, Science and/or English. We are looking for positive role models who will encourage students to be the best they can be. Applicants interested in this position must be enrolled in a local college or university. Daytime tutor hours (during the school day) vary by location.

We will accommodate your class schedules. Interviews will be conducted in August to fill vacancies for the next school year.

Under the general supervision of a principal or designee and the immediate supervisor of a site teacher, tutors assist identified students in academic subjects. The goal of tutoring is to develop habits of mind and higher standards of academic achievement among students, in turn, increasing their postsecondary educational options upon high school graduation.

Responsibilities at the school site

Provide academic support via tutorial assistance to students.

Serve as positive role models for students.

Encourage high academic achievement.

Motivate students to continue in a college preparatory course of study throughout high school.

Discuss students' achievement with teachers.

Perform other duties as assigned by administrators and/or site coordinators/teachers, including working with individual students, leading group discussions, and grading AVID notebooks and Cornell notes.

Responsibilities to the District

Must perform duties in a dependable, responsible manner, including:

Attend all tutor training sessions, meetings or other required events.

Report to the school site in accordance with the established hours of work which were agreed upon with supervisor.

Report absences in the prescribed manner. (Contact your school site.)

Cooperate fully with district staff, site counselors, teachers and administrators.

Minimum Qualifications

Tutors must be high school graduates who are currently in good standing in local colleges or universities.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT CANDIDATES BE CURRENTLY IN GOOD ACADEMIC STANDING AT LOCAL COLLEGES OR UNIVERSITIES.
