Job Summary
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. Under only general direction, this position is responsible for developing and writing programs for computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines using engineering specifications and drawings. The role reviews engineering drawings to define part configurations and determine the type and sequence of machine operations, and may independently select proper cutters considering speeds, cutter types, feeds, and control system limitations.
The incumbent contributes to solving technical problems to meet deadlines and schedules.
- Develop CNC programs for turn/mill metallic parts on computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools.
- Determine program routines for efficient computer calculation of dimensional and machining requirements for each part.
- Test and modify existing programs for engineering changes or improvements.
- Prepare department documentation, including operational instructions and standard procedures.
- Act as primary contact with suppliers and vendors.
- Provide direction to less experienced professional staff.
- Observe all laws, regulations, and applicable obligations wherever business is conducted on behalf of the company.
- Work safely in accordance with established operating procedures and practices. Additional functions as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer programming or a related field and five or more years of progressive experience in programming CNC machines. Equivalent professional experience may substitute for education.
- Esprit CAM experience highly desired.
- Visual Basic for Applications coding experience desired.
- General computer programming experience preferred.
- Must demonstrate a complete understanding of CNC application principles, theories, and concepts, and possess leadership skills including organizing, scheduling, and coordinating work assignments to meet project milestones.
- Must be able to contribute to the development of new processes and resolve a variety of difficult technical matters.
