In the GSE Production Mechanical Engineering Department in Poway, CA, we have an exciting opportunity for a Ground Support Equipment Engineering Designer to contribute to the development of some of the most novel remotely‑piloted aircraft of our time.
Under general supervision with limited review, this position is responsible for providing technical design solutions for a range of difficult design problems for structural products and components using computer‑aided design (CAD) equipment and technical engineering software such as NX or Creo Parametric (Pro Engineer). Assignments are normally outlined in terms of objectives and anticipated results, and work is reviewed at milestones for adequacy in meeting objectives.
The role involves documenting findings, communicating results to engineering staff, and delivering technical design presentations when required.
- Develop design solutions for assigned structural products and components.
- Interact with engineering staff on design concepts and progress.
- Take design responsibility for a major portion of a project or program.
- Create layouts, sketches, and blueprints and investigate design factors such as damage tolerance, durability, and structural modeling.
- Address details related to structural assemblies, mechanisms, and devices.
- Validate conformity to design standards and specifications, identify design errors and other deficiencies, and recommend changes.
- Provide documentation, identify design issues, and present technical designs to engineering staff and customers as needed.
- Remain current in CAD techniques and applicable state‑of‑the‑art engineering design software applications.
- Direct activities of less experienced designers and support staff when necessary.
- Observe all laws, regulations, and applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Work safely in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
- Typically requires an associate’s degree or a certificate from a recognized organization indicating completion of training in NX, Creo Parametric (Pro Engineer) or CATIA design software plus ten or more years of progressive experience utilizing CAD software, with at least two of those years spent in NX or Creo Parametric (Pro Engineer) engineering design software. Additional education may be substituted in lieu of work experience.
- Complete understanding of engineering design concepts and principles, with the ability to quickly learn new concepts and apply them accurately in an evolving environment.
- Strong organization, scheduling, and coordination skills.
- Ability to determine the appropriate approach at the task or project level to solve complex problems.
- Excellent communication, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and strong computer skills. Can work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work extended hours as required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
- Desirable qualifications:
- Current DoD Security Clearance is preferred.

Job Type: Full‑Time Hourly
Salary range: $71,950 – $109,885
