Job Summary
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. The MQ-1C Engineering team seeks a systems engineering expert and technical leader to join the Army Systems Engineering team, focusing on architecture design, aviation requirements management, hardware and software architecture, and digital engineering tools such as Jama, Jira, and Cameo.
This position will play a pivotal role in driving systems engineering activities, determining technical objectives for UAS hardware and software requirements management, and supporting the Systems Engineering, Integration, and Cyber (SEIC) leadership team in planning and overseeing the resolution and implementation of engineering challenges.
- Represents the assigned systems or projects as a prime technical expert.
- Serve as a systems engineering expert and technical leader for Army aviation programs, focusing on UAS requirements management and architecture design.
- Lead and oversee the development, integration, and verification of hardware and software architectures for unmanned aerial systems (UAS), ensuring compliance with aviation standards and requirements.
- Utilize digital engineering tools such as Jama, Jira, and Cameo to manage requirements, track progress, and support system development across the engineering lifecycle.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams, customers, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure seamless integration of UAS systems and adherence to open architecture standards such as FACE, SOSA, HOST, and VICTORY.
- Direct and allocate technical resources to support UAS system design, testing, and validation, ensuring alignment with Army aviation objectives and timelines.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including requirements traceability matrices, system architecture diagrams, and test plans, to support UAS program development and compliance.
- Act as a technical advisor and consultant, providing expert guidance on aviation requirements management, system architecture development, and integration strategies for UAS platforms.
- Develop new and/or expand existing business opportunities.
- Ensure compliance, reporting, and safety standards are maintained.
- Participate in the planning, selection, retention, and development of professional staff.
- Publish and present technical papers and abstracts, and participate in internal and external technical program reviews.
- Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Observe all laws, regulations, and applicable obligations in all business conduct.
- Work safely in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Bachelors, masters, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline with progressive engineering experience: fifteen or more years (bachelors), thirteen or more years (masters), or ten or more years (PhD); equivalent experience may substitute for education.
- Prior unmanned vehicles operation and/or development experience preferred.
- Prior open architecture and knowledge of Army open architecture standards (e.g., FACE, SOSA, HOST, VICTORY) preferred.
- Strong technical proficiency in software and networking integration preferred.
- Experience integrating innovative user experience (UX) solutions into robotics or unmanned vehicles a plus.
- Prior technical leadership experience leading cross‑functional engineering teams across internal and external organizations preferred.
- Demonstrates extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, with project and program leadership in planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for effective leadership interfacing with all levels of management and stakeholders.
- Customer‑focused with the ability to formulate plans based on innovative designs for advanced technical engineering problems.
- Self‑initiated and capable of working in a team environment, including extended hours as required.
- A Professional Engineering License, published works in professional engineering journals, invitations to present at national or international symposia, or invitations to chair engineering review panels are desirable.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
