Job Summary

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft, tactical reconnaissance radars, and advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer to join the Japan Project Engineering team for the MQ-9B Sea Guardian Program. The role works closely with the program management team(s) to support customer pursuits, identify requirements, develop program plans, support proposal activity, and facilitate technical program execution for MQ-9B Sea Guardian UAS.

This position exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and coordinates technical aspects from program inception to product delivery. It requires interface with international customers, foreign and domestic vendors, GA-ASI program stakeholders, and the USAF Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program office.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Formulate plans and guide the development and implementation of engineering solutions, including deployment, resource requirements, testing, documentation, integration, compliance, and safety.
  • Advise or direct the activities of professional staff for assigned projects/programs to achieve technical objectives.
  • Liaise with functional groups to meet program objectives while monitoring budget and schedule constraints.
  • Serve as a key team member and may represent the organization, project, or program as a technical contact for the engineering team.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams as a trusted technical liaison, leading teams of communications, ground systems, and sensor payload SMEs to develop and resolve integration solutions.
  • Determine annual and multi‑year technical objectives for designated engineering systems or projects/programs.
  • Participate in internal and external technical program reviews.
  • Plan for future applications of solutions based on IRAD activity and new developments in engineering technology.
  • Travel up to 25% to support meetings in the US and OCONUS.
  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance, reporting, and safety standards are maintained.
  • Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Work safely in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution, with progressive engineering experience: nine+ years with a bachelor’s, seven+ years with a master’s, or four+ years with a PhD. Equivalent experience may substitute for education.
  • Extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice; ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet deadlines or milestones, with experience in project leadership.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in an evolving environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and providing leadership to less experienced professionals.
  • Customer‑focused mindset; formulate plans based on development of innovative designs for advanced technical engineering challenges.
  • Capable of working independently and in a team environment.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • Professional Engineering License, published original work in professional engineering journals, and/or invitation to present original works at an engineering symposium are desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
