General Atomics (GA) and its affiliated companies are a leading resource for high‑technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless, and laser technologies.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer as part of the Engineering and Projects team within the Energy Group. This position will be part of a team for the design, development, and fabrication of components and systems for magnetic and inertial fusion devices.

This role focuses on the mechanical design of components and systems. Under general supervision, this position supports the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation, and solution of engineering problems of moderate scope and complexity. Assignments are normally accompanied by general instructions and suggestions, outlining possible approaches and potential problems.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Apply technical knowledge to analyze, investigate, and resolve engineering problems.
  • Develop detailed CAD models and technical drawings for mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Apply GD&T and perform tolerance stack‑up analyses to ensure designs meet functional, fit, and manufacturability requirements; perform functional testing and troubleshooting of equipment and systems by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
  • Obtain and analyze test data to validate design performance and safety.
  • Develop appropriate documentation of findings and implemented solutions; may be required to make brief technical presentations.
  • Provide direction to design and technical staff.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Observe all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; two or more years of engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Strong understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory.
  • Experience with Solid Works, Creo, or other mechanical CAD packages.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately; ability to organize work to meet established timetables.
  • Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills; able to work independently and as part of a team.

Job Type: Full‑Time Salary. Salary range: $68,770 – $116,193.
