A Nurse Resident position is a mentored experience to facilitate transition from student to professional nurse. The role involves delivery of coordinated nursing care for a patient or an assigned group of patients within an assigned unit and day‑to‑day management and supervision of related clinical activities. The resident will supervise and direct the activities of various levels of assigned nursing and ancillary personnel, utilizing both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
The resident must understand and adhere to the California Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, the ANA Bill of Rights for Registered Nurses, and the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice for Nurses. English proficiency is required for successful performance of essential functions. The position requires knowledge of standard office equipment and personal computer skills, including proficiency in Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Internet, and e‑mail.
Windows computer skills include keyboarding, mouse use, drop‑down menu navigation, scroll bars, folder management, copying, and other basic operations.
The resident must follow Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards, and carry out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health. The resident may also perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements- Minimum Education: As required by certification and/or licensure
- Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or Masters Entry in a School of Nursing approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing
- Minimum Experience: 0–6 months in similar work
Preferred Experience: Not Applicable - Required Certification:
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency RN Pediatric Course (ENPC) within 6 months of hire
- Crisis Prevention (CPI) within 6 months of hire
- American Heart Association recognized Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 90 days of hire
- American Heart Association recognized BLS – Healthcare Provider
- Preferred Certification: Not Applicable
- Required License: Current CA RN License
