Position: Veterinary Technician/Veterinary Assistant (Day Shift)

Pet Vet Care Centers' Animal Emergency Clinic of San Diego is currently seeking Veterinary Technicians/Veterinary Assistants to join their team!

Sign‑On Bonus
  • Eligible for a Sign‑On Bonus, paid in 2 installments: first half after 30 days of employment and second half after 6 months of successful job completion.
  • Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVT), Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT) and Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVT) receive an additional $3,000.00 bonus.
Position Overview
  • The Veterinary Technician supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients. Responsibilities include determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, nursing care, feeding, maintaining supplies and equipment, overseeing triage and discharging patients, and recording patient medical information.
Key Responsibilities
  • Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations and interviews, reviewing care plans and records, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs and vaccines, and bandaging and wrapping wounds.
  • Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies and instruments, securing and bringing patients to examination rooms, restraining patients, and aiding as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Apply full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment usage, and specialized drug administration to provide excellent pet care.
  • Obtain and verify medications.
  • Ensure patients receive food and water, clean rooms, cages and equipment, and observe patients for clinical signs of disease.
  • Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing instruments, sanitizing and disinfecting areas, storing sterile supplies, verifying shelf life, and following standards, procedures and applicable legal regulations.
  • Document patients’ conditions, reactions and changes; update the database accurately and timely.
  • Communicate with pet owners about patient status as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Maintain inventory, place orders for needed supplies, verify, and retain receipts.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional journals.
  • Release patients to owners as directed; ensure each animal released is clean and properly groomed.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice.
Qualifications (Required)
  • Emergency experience or at least 5 years in General Practice.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT).
Schedule

Day shift 7:00 am – 5:30 pm or Day shift 10:00 am – 7:00 pm, 4 shifts.

Pay Range

$25—$32 USD
