POSITION SUMMARY:

Current Opening:
One full-time position (40 hours/week)

Under the direction and supervision of the Surgical Services Director. Follows established protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, preparing and packaging, disinfecting or sterilizing, and storing medical and surgical supplies and equipment. Distributes medical and surgical supplies from sterile processing areas to other areas within the facility or healthcare organization as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Monitor, interpret, and document results of physical, chemical, and biological indicators for all types of sterilizers used in the sterile processing areas.
  • Prepare and distribute surgical case carts according to physician’s preference lists and anticipated needs of the perioperative team.
  • Inventory, receive, and restock materials used for supporting sterile processing services.
  • Assist in improving the quality of sterile processing services.
  • Assist with identifying pertinent evidence to establish benchmarks as directed.
  • Assist with post procedure cleaning of operative or other invasive procedure room and prep room for subsequent patients.
  • Perform terminal cleaning of OR rooms, Scrub Sink area, CS, dirty utility room, and all equipment in same.
  • Follow established protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, preparing and packaging, disinfecting or sterilizing, and storing medical and surgical supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Certification in Sterile Processing.
  • 1 year or more of sterile processing experience.
  • Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT), or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification.
  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) certification.
  • HIPAA Certified.
  • BLS Certified within 6 months of hire.
  • Purdue certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES

REQUIRED:
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and analyze and interpret common technical journals.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Skilled in the use of operating sterilization equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records and organize own work.
  • Multi-task.
  • Maintain confidential information.
  • Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or regulatory agencies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:
  • Regularly lifting or move objects weighing 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, and working with equipment.
  • Subject to inside and possibly outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is also subject to exposure to blood and body fluids, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, exposure to burns and radiant energy, exposure to explosives, exposure to toxic chemicals and biological agents.
