Grants and Giving VISTA

PEP (Powell Economic Partnership) is an economic development non-profit that fills the roles of economic development, chamber of commerce and visitor center for the Powell, WY community. The Grants and Giving VISTA will build PEP's capacity to alleviate community conditions that lead to poverty by planning and executing fundraising events and writing grants to fund local food access and food security programs, such as farm-to-school, food aggregation and distribution, workforce programs and quality of life projects.

Developing the local food pipeline will improve access to local foods for everyone, especially to students with the greatest needs. The Park County School District in Powell serves 1,100 lunches/day (not including breakfasts), 31% of those are feeding students who are enrolled in the free lunch program. The VISTA is necessary to develop regular/annual fundraising activities that can be executed by PEP's small capacity staff, so fundraising is continuous and can sustain PEP's work and projects.

The second year Grants and Giving VISTA will review fundraising and financing strategies identified and started by the previous VISTA. The VISTA will identify the most effective strategies to date and create additional strategies to execute. The VISTA will record processes and timelines for each strategy, so PEP can execute them again after the VISTA project is completed. The VISTA will also collaborate with PEP staff to identify and submit grant applications as appropriate opportunities emerge.

For grants PEP acquires, they will work with PEP staff to create grant specific management systems to record progress, collect data, and track grant funds. The Grants and Giving VISTA, is one of six VISTA positions in Park County, all contributing to the economic vitality of the area. PEP VISTA positions provide opportunities to gain valuable professional skills, an immersive experience in a beautiful area, and serve with a team of like-minded people.

Member Duties :
The Grants and Giving VISTA will identify and implement best practices for fundraising and financing local food projects. The Grants and Giving VISTA will build PEP's capacity to combat poverty by developing sustainable fundraising processes, events, and help write grants to fund local food security projects, farm-to-table activities, workforce, and quality of life programs. Objective 1:
Become oriented to the Site, the community, the region and cultural landscape. Objective 2:
Conduct outreach to increase awareness of organization and projects. Objective 3:
Review and revise processes to align and manage project funding. Objective 4:
Understand funding needs and develop funding plan for each Project. Objective 5:
Collaborate with PEP's team to prioritize funding needs and execute funding plan.
