This position assists with coordinating, staffing, organizing, scheduling, marketing, and support of the outdoor recreation and tourism program; promotes aerial adventure learning opportunities; and supports the use of aerial adventure spaces and associated instructional spaces. Administers the day-to-day operations of the climbing wall, coordinates the outdoor recreation equipment and instructional space use.
Performs physically demanding tasks related to the climbing wall, aerial adventure space, and other activities while actively assisting with safety procedures both on the wall, aerial elements, and on the ground.
Administers the setup, coordination, staffing, and appropriate use of outdoor recreation instructional space and aerial adventure space; ensures that equipment and spaces are available, prepared, and in safe working condition to support the shared academic and experiential learning related to outdoor education, outdoor recreation, and tourism.
Supports coordination, communication, and collaboration across the tourism industry to develop robust partnerships and programming between stakeholders, industry leaders, schools, and Northwest College. Attends meetings and collaborates with applicable State, Districts, and community partners in developing and implementing outdoor education, outdoor recreation, and tourism programming.
Schedules trained staff, equipment, and space to support the safe delivery of outdoor education, outdoor recreation, and tourism programming. Maintains equipment and ensures safety standards are followed.
Actively participates in safety orientations for participants and staff, inspects equipment for safety, and uses aerial elements and climbing wall alongside participants.
Administers marketing and outreach activities to advertise and recruit students to participate in the certification, training, and outdoor education degree courses, and to use onsite and off‑site instructional space for aerial adventure activities and climbing.
Tracks usage of the aerial adventure learning lab and associated instructional space use by participants, degree, certificate, and non‑degree seeking students, and stakeholders/partnerships.
Provides information on academic and non‑academic programming related to outdoor education, outdoor recreation, and tourism learning opportunities and actively engages in providing demonstrations and tours.
Monitors budget and associated expenditures and assist with statewide or institutional measurement reports.
Position Specific ResponsibilitiesPositions assigned to Tourism & Outdoor Recreation Specialist may be responsible for:
- Consulting with College, school districts and community stakeholders to develop outdoor education, outdoor recreation, and tourism activities.
- Scheduling onsite and off‑site instructional spaces including aerial elements and climbing wall space.
- Sourcing, identifying, evaluating, and scheduling appropriate personnel to ensure adequate staffing for onsite and off‑site activities.
- Facilitating hiring and payroll processes.
- Establishing and maintaining outdoor education, outdoor recreation (including co‑op), and tourism equipment check‑out/check‑in system that includes inventory, equipment cleaning, safety inspection, repair, and replacement.
- Developing, maintaining, and distributing outdoor education, outdoor recreation, and tourism information and schedules to college campus and community stakeholders.
- Coordinating outdoor recreation and tourism programs for off‑campus sites.
- Providing usage data with associated coursework, related K‑12 stakeholders, community members, or industrial partnerships to the appropriate division chair or NWC staff.
- Monitoring and maintaining climbing wall, aerial adventure learning lab, and associated equipment related to onsite and off‑site activities for outdoor education, outdoor recreation, and tourism programming.
- Collaboratively providing support to students and faculty related to the climbing wall, aerial adventure learning lab, and associated outdoor education, outdoor recreation, and tourism instructional spaces.
- Operating tools and equipment in the assigned area of responsibility.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
