Anticipated Opening – Day School Principal Haskins Learning Center | 2027–2028 School Year

SCKSEC is seeking qualified applicants for an anticipated opening for a Day School Principal at Haskins Learning Center for the school year.

The successful candidate must hold a valid building-level Kansas administrative license or be in a qualified program working towards a building level administrative license.

Administrative experience is preferred, and experience working in special education is highly desirable but not required.

Position Summary

The Haskins Learning Center Principal serves as the instructional and climate leader of the school. The principal is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the organization, supervision, and implementation of the school's educational program while fostering a positive, supportive, and effective learning environment for students and staff.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and student-focused leader who is committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs, developing staff, and working effectively with families, school districts, and SCKSEC staff.

Essential Job Functions
  • Establish and maintain an effective culturally competent learning climate in the school
  • Provide leadership in the development of the instructional program, based upon current research on effective day schools
  • Evaluate and revise curricular and instructional programs in cooperation with staff and appropriate district administrators
  • Facilitate communication between staff, students and parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts
  • Communicate with staff to assure instructional programs meet student needs and HLC/ SCKSEC requirements
  • Administer the school and its instructional program in all its facets
  • Assist in supervising all support services, including custodial and maintenance
  • Supervise the school staff and work in conjunction with the assistant director for the recruitment, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluation of the staff, both licensed and classified
  • Evaluate both classified and licensed staff according to procedures and timelines outlined by the Inter-local.
  • Institute a uniform discipline policy and develop a set of practices for student behavior
  • Develop and provide in-service programs for the staff's professional development and growth
  • Initiate, design, and implement programs to meet specific needs of the school and its students
  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning; deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds; and communicate effectively with students, staff and parents
  • Participate in professional growth to improve skills related to current and future job assignment
  • Relate to students with respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy
  • Assess and evaluate situations that may involve calling law enforcement and follow protocol in doing so
  • Develop school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline, and conduct of students as established by Haskins Learning Center policies and procedures. Update staff manuals and student handbooks as needed
  • Prepare and supervise the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director
Other Job Functions
  • Confer and Coordinate with other principals, district administrators and learning coordinators in determining processes on state and local assessments for instructional purposes the students represented from each district within HLC. In addition, provide instruction and guidance on DLM methods for all teachers giving those assessments
  • Plan new employee orientation activities at the building level
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director

Candidate must demonstrate knowledge and experience as an effective leader in creating a positive school climate, building strong collaborative relationships with staff and stakeholders, demonstrating an understanding of evidence based academic an behavioral practices, and have an understanding of students with disabilities and how to implement positive programs to support them.

Knowledge and experience in working with outside agencies and parents to support mental health needs is preferred.
