Position: RN - Intensive Care Unit (Night Shift)

Description

Pratt Regional Medical Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide critical care services within our integrated Intensive care Unit/Medical-Surgical Unit. As part of our care model, ICU-designated beds are located within the Medical-Surgical unit. The ICU RN will provide care to critically ill patients requiring intensive monitoring and treatment. During times when there are no ICU-level patients, this role will transition to providing care for Medical-Surgical patients while remaining available to respond to critical care needs as they arise.

This position requires flexibility, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care across both critical care and acute care settings.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Kansas Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility to obtain Kansas licensure.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent ICU or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required.
  • Candidates with a strong PCU background and critical care skills are encouraged to apply.
  • Current BLS and ACLS and PALS certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).

    Job Summary:

    Provides professional nursing services in the treatment and care of assigned patients in accordance with physicians' orders. Provides for the comfort and well-being of patients by assessing condition, providing treatments, administering prescribed drugs, documenting progress and other observations. Coordinates nursing care for patients and participates in patient and family teaching. Provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards.

    Provides general nursing care to patients in the hospital.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Determines the nursing needs of the patient and devises a nursing plan of care for each individual.
  • Makes sure that nursing plans of care are carried out and coordinates tests and other diagnostic procedures as indicated.
  • Provides monitoring and assessment of the patient following age-specific guidelines per unit policy or as needed, and immediate treatment when needed.
  • Operates and monitors medical life-support equipment and systems.
  • Keeps records of vital signs, significant conditions, and reactions.
  • Observes the behavior of the patient to determine their psychological state and provides emotional support and reassurance to allay panic. Communicates to the family, and patient, appropriate information on the patient’s condition and documents per policy.
  • Calls for the initiation of emergency procedures and administers treatment upon recognizing danger signals.
  • Demonstrates effective and accurate verbal and written communication.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of services provided and documents per nursing policies.
  • Maintains supplies, including stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
  • Nursing care follows infection control guidelines.
  • Document care as required by Nursing Department and unit policy.
  • Maintains a readiness of nursing units and chart documentation for review by KDHE Surveyors.
  • Rotates among various clinical services of the hospital as assignments warrant. .
Job Qualifications:

Licensed RN in the state of Kansas. BLS, ACLS, PALS certified. Required 3–5 years of related experience or training. Requires basic computer literacy within a Windows environment, including word processing functions, use of the internet, and computer-based education. Keyboarding ability required. Experience using CPSI documentation software will be an asset, to include nursing assessments, electronic MAR with bedside barcode scanning, and Computerized Physician Order Entry.

Additional Information:

Weekend and/or Holiday rotations may be required.
