Looking for a high-impact engineering role with room to grow? We’re expanding in Iowa and seeking a Lead Engineer – Generation (Turbine) to support our continued growth. In this position, you’ll lead complex engineering efforts across energy generation systems designing, installing, operating, and maintaining critical infrastructure. You’ll manage contractors, oversee scheduling, and mentor less experienced team members, all while working autonomously and influencing decisions across multiple levels. Candidates with strong turbine knowledge and experience managing large‑scale outages will be well‑positioned for success in this role.
What you will do- Identify problems and solutions and make safety suggestions to maintain a safe work environment, using tools and standards to design safety into operating and maintaining equipment.
- Proactively identify and solve highly technical or complex problems using technical experience, extensive knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts and knowledge of business trends to generate innovative and/or original solutions.
- Develop recommendations that provide technically sound and the most cost‑effective solutions demonstrating critical thinking skills.
- Anticipate customer needs and demonstrate the ability and confidence to present alternatives and constructively influence the customer’s decision making.
- Make higher‑risk decisions that involve direct application of technical knowledge and may have an impact on multiple areas of the business with proper sign‑off from the customer.
- Coordinate and lead cross‑functional teams to address complex technical or operational problems.
- Provide leadership, coaching, direction, guidance, and advice to others with a wide range of influence on many levels of decision making.
- Establish effective working relationships and credibility with employees, contractors, customers, functional groups, and internal and external peers.
- Proactively identify and develop operational guidelines, standards, training, and strategic plans that help the customer sustain identified improvements.
- Manage project budgets, including process accruals and communicate anticipated changes in the budget.
- Understand various corporate financial statements and can differentiate how project implementation will impact the rate payer versus the shareholder.
- Understand income statement and balance sheet pro‑forma analyses and the implications of technical inputs to the pro‑forma, understanding of shareholder and customer impacts.
- Support generation facility outages.
- Engage in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s values and help deliver on our purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering program that is accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission required.
- 9 years of related experience.
- Project management leadership experience preferred, along with ability to deal with subcontractors and cross‑functional teams; recognized as having expertise in a particular area of the discipline.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
