Position: 2026-A Sanitation Crew Supervisor (2/2026)

This position supervises and participates in the collection of solid waste. Job duties consist of varied supervisory and administrative duties. Successful performance helps ensure the effective and efficient provision of services to customers. FLSA status is Non-Exempt. The following duties are normal for this classification. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or logical assignments for this classification.

Other duties may be required and assigned. Specific duties listed may not be required for all positions in this classification, but are determined by the normal requirements for this particular position.

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES (45%)
  • Supervises and coordinates solid waste collection activities.
  • Oversees and participates in the work of sanitation crews engaged in the collection of solid waste and yard waste.
  • Patrols the city to identify problem areas and coordinate appropriate responses.
  • Schedules work crews and prioritizes assignments.
  • Schedules and directs the maintenance repairs of vehicles.
  • Reviews reports completed by subordinate personnel; completes a variety of regular and special reports.
PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES (25%)
  • Assists in orienting, training, assigning, directing, supervising, and evaluating department personnel; participates in the hiring process of department personnel.
  • Ensures work is performed in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Reviews employee time and leave requests.
  • Completes performance appraisals on subordinate personnel.
PUBLIC RELATIONS & OTHER RELATED DUTIES (30%)
  • Provides information to citizens regarding sanitation policy and procedure.
  • Coordinates with citizens for special pick-ups.
  • Responds to citizens' complaints and concerns.
  • Performs other related duties as needed or assigned.
  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Three (3) years of job‑related experience.
  • Two (2) year of supervisory experience in municipal sanitation systems preferred.
  • Must be twenty‑one (21) years of age or older.
  • Must possess and maintain a Class "A" Driver's license (or obtain within nine (9) months of employment).
JOB DUTIES (Physical & Health Requirements)
  • Job Duties typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. Employees frequently lift light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • Job duties are typically performed outdoors, occasionally in extreme or inclement weather. Employees are exposed to noise, dirt, dust, grease, irritating chemicals, and machinery with moving parts.
  • Job duties require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
  • Job duties require the ability to deal with and relate to people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Job duties require the ability to talk, express, or exchange ideas by means of spoken words and/or hear and perceive the nature of sounds by ear.
  • Job candidates must be able to adapt to and perform under moderate stress.
  • Job duties require regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
