If your knowledge expands from the pole-top to the substation—and you are looking to stay hands-on while expanding your skills into inspections, staking, system analysis, and substation work—Central Alabama Electric Cooperative (CAEC), may have the next step in your career.
We’re looking for someone who brings strong linework fundamentals, sound judgement, and a commitment to safety to support the day-to-day reliability of our system. What We’re Looking ForWe welcome linework candidates with the following education, experience, and qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent with at least six years of electric distribution linework experience; completion of a lineman apprenticeship program preferred
- Strong working knowledge of electric distribution construction and maintenance, with the ability to analyze system conditions, troubleshoot equipment issues, and assess safety and reliability risks
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn engineering, GIS, and inspection software
- Valid Alabama driver’s license, up to and including a Class A CDL
- Ability to meet residency, on-call, system outage/emergency response requirements, and mutual aid restoration effort expectations
You will play a critical role in system reliability, safety, and outage prevention by:
- Performing inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational testing of electric, metering, and fiber equipment
- Documenting system conditions using inspection software, photographs, GPS data, and detailed notes, and tracking corrective actions to resolution
- Preparing staking sheets, construction drawings, and material lists for work orders, retirements, and pole changeouts using GIS and work management systems
- Coordinating with engineering and operations teams to test and verify relay, recloser, and regulator settings and assist with substation switching activities
