Job Title: Crawler Crane Technician
Location: Rental Works Birmingham, AL, Decatur, AL, Nashville, TN, or Mobile, AL
Reports to: Service Manager
FLSA Status: Full-time, non-exempt
Schedule: 8am-5pm, overtime and weekends expected

PositionSummary
The Crawler Crane Assembly Technician travels to job sites to safely build, test, and tear down heavy track-mounted crawler cranes. This hands-on role requires mechanical skills, heavy lifting, and strict safety rules to manage massive lattice booms, car body tracks, and counterweights
Key Responsibilities- Build and Teardown:
Assemble and disassemble crawler crane tracks, car body, car body counterweights, upper works, and lattice boom sections safely. - Rigging and Pinning:
Use hand tools, hammers, and pins to secure structural components and rig hoist lines or pendants. - Mechanical Repairs:
Fix hydraulic, mechanical, and basic electrical issues on site to keep equipment ready. - Safety Inspections:
Perform pre-operational, monthly, and yearly checks on assembled cranes. - Site Travel:
Drive company vehicles to different regional or national job locations as required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Knowledge of OSHA Regulations and ANSI Standards in crane operations
- Proficient in oral and written communication skills
- Pass drug test and background check
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- High School Diploma or equivalent required, technical degree preferred
- 2+ years working in heavy construction or machinery maintenance.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using basic hand and power tools
- Valid Driver's License
- NCCO signal person or crane operator certification desired
This position is performed primarily at active construction sites and other outdoor work environments. Employees must be able to work safely on uneven terrain and in varying weather conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, rain, wind, dust, mud, and other environmental conditions typical of heavy equipment and construction operations. The position requires the ability to drive during daytime and nighttime hours and in all weather conditions as needed.
Operators must maintain constant situational awareness in dynamic work environments, remaining alert to the activities of employees, contractors, pedestrians, stationary equipment, and moving vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure safe operations. Frequent walking on uneven or unstable surfaces, including natural ground, is required. Employees must be able to safely climb on and off trucks, cranes, and other heavy equipment, as well as access elevated work areas using steps, ladders, or handholds.
The use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times in accordance with company policies and applicable safety regulations.
- Prolonged standing, crouching, bending, climbing, stooping, reaching, twisting, pushing, and pulling, repetitive wrist and hand movements, hearing and seeing (depth perception and peripheral vision)
