Boom Truck Operator

The purpose of this position is to operate an assigned boom truck. Job duties consist of related equipment operation duties. Successful performance results in the successful collection of debris. FLSA status is Non-Exempt. The following duties are normal for this classification. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or logical assignments for this classification.

Other duties may be required and assigned. Specific duties listed may not be required for all positions in this classification, but are determined by the normal requirements for this particular position.

• Operates a boom truck to load trees, limbs, brush, and debris.
• Operates a compactor to compact trash.
• Surveys work sites for potential hazards.
• Assists in maintaining facilities and grounds.
• Assists with recycling center operations as needed.

• Performs pre- and post-trip equipment inspections.
• Cleans equipment interior and exterior.
• Performs minor maintenance and repair duties.
• Reports major repair needs to supervisor.

• Receives daily work assignments and coordinates the work of assigned personnel.
• Maintains required records.

• Assists with other department tasks.
• Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. A valid Alabama Class "B" CDL preferred. One (1) year of experience in performing heavy manual labor preferred. One (1) year of experience in the operation of trucks and heavy equipment.

Job duties are typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. Employees occasionally lift light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and utilizes the sense of smell. Job duties are typically performed outdoors, occasionally in extreme or inclement weather. Employees are exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts.

Job duties require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. Job duties require the ability to deal with and relate to people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Job duties require the ability to talk, express, or exchange ideas by means of spoken words and/or hear and perceive the nature of sounds by ear. Job candidates must be able to adapt to and perform under moderate stress.

Job duties require regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Knowledge of work safety principles. Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in the course of work. Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations. Knowledge of traffic safety. Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in the use of hand and power tools.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Must provide proof of your legal right to work in the United States. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. High School Diploma/GED (preferred). Willing to work overtime. Willing to cooperate with the workload of the department. Willing to comply with City of Prattville rules and regulations. Must submit to drug screenings for this safety sensitive position.
