Job Description Title - Parts Specialist

Reports To: Supervisor of Transportation and Maintenance

FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt

Position Summary: Responsible for ordering, receiving, organizing, and maintaining an accurate inventory of vehicle parts and supplies. This position also maintains accurate fuel records, reviews vehicle works orders, tracks parts usage, communicates effectively with vendors and transportation staff, and provides bus route coverage when needed.

Qualifications:
  • A. Basic computer skills and the ability to use web-based software.
  • B. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • C. Current Alabama School Bus Driver license, or the ability to obtain the required license within six months of the hire date.
  • D. Ability to successfully pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination.
  • E. Ability to maintain accurate records and work effectively with limited supervision.
  • F. Must obtain a criminal history background clearance and meet the suitability criteria for employment under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .
Skills and Physical Abilities:
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage inventory and maintain reliable records.
  • Ability to learn and use computer-based inventory and transportation systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Flexibility to respond to transportation staffing needs.
Performance Responsibilities and

Essential Functions:
  • 1. Order and receive parts and supplies for the transportation fleet.
  • 2. Maintain an accurate and organized parts inventory.
  • 3. Maintain accurate vehicle fuel records.
  • 4. Review vehicle work orders and ensure accurate accounting of parts used.
  • 5. Communicate effectively with vendors, drivers, employees, and members of the public as necessary to complete assigned duties.
  • 6. Respond to emergency calls as needed.
  • 7. Drive school bus routes as needed to cover driver shortages, absences, or other staffing needs.
  • 8. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • 9. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • 10. Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • 11. Follow safety precautions of the specific trades and practice standard safety procedures at all time.
  • 12. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • 13. Engages in personal professional growth, ongoing training, and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
  • 14. Engages in required orientations, trainings, safety instruction, and meetings as required for effective job performance and/or advancement.
  • 15. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • 16. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  • 17. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws/regulations.
  • 18. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or supervisor’s designee.

Terms of employment:240-days

Daily work schedule will be determined by supervisor or his/her designee for the necessary operations of the school system. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change.

Salary:

Approved salary schedule for Bus Shop and Maintenance Personnel is located on the Human Resources webpage. Salary for personnel is set at appropriate step and rank on adopted salary schedule based on skill level and experience. Annual salary is based on a 40-hour week.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the support personnel evaluation system and board policy.
