Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Teacher

Prescott Valley Charter School | Arizona

POSITION SUMMARY

Prescott Valley Charter School is seeking a highly skilled, certified Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Teacher who believes that students with disabilities can grow, achieve, and succeed when provided with structure, accountability, and high-quality instruction.

This role is NOT for a passive educator, a paperwork-only case manager, or someone who allows students to control the classroom.

This role IS for a strong instructional leader who can deliver targeted instruction, manage behavior with confidence, collaborate effectively, and ensure students make meaningful academic and behavioral progress.

ESS teachers at PVCS are instructional leaders, case managers, and advocates for student success.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction & Student Growth

* Provide explicit, structured, and differentiated instruction aligned to IEP goals

* Deliver small-group and individual instruction using evidence-based practices

* Hold students accountable for behavior, effort, and academic work

* Build student independence, self-regulation, and responsibility

* Maintain safe, orderly, and predictable learning environments

* Collect and analyze data to adjust instruction and interventions

IEP Development & Compliance

* Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

* Ensure all services, accommodations, and goals are delivered with fidelity

* Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation

* Monitor progress toward IEP goals and adjust plans as needed

* Participate in eligibility meetings, annual reviews, and reevaluations

* Collaborate with related service providers

Behavior Support & Classroom Management

* Implement behavior intervention plans consistently and effectively

* Use proactive strategies to prevent escalation

* Address challenging behaviors calmly, firmly, and professionally

* Maintain authority and structure while preserving student dignity

* Train and guide paraprofessionals in behavior expectations and strategies

Collaboration & Leadership

* Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and accommodations

* Work closely with paraprofessionals to ensure consistency and accountability

* Communicate regularly with families regarding progress and expectations

* Partner with administrators and ESS leadership to improve systems and outcomes

* Accept feedback and coaching with a growth mindset

Professional Expectations

* Remain actively engaged with students during instructional time

* Personal phone use during instruction is not permitted

* Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and reliability

* Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards

* Model appropriate behavior, language, and leadership

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

* Bachelor's Degree (required)

* Valid Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate

* Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and special education law

* Strong classroom management skills

* Ability to lead a classroom with authority and care

Preferred:

* Experience teaching students with disabilities across grade levels

* Experience writing and implementing behavior intervention plans

* Data-driven instructional background

* Bilingual (Spanish a plus)

* May require work across multiple instructional settings
