Water Operations & Instrumentation Technician - Prescott Valley, AZ

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Water Operations
  • Monitor, adjust, and operate wells and distribution system treatment operations to meet state and federal water quality standards.
  • Collect water samples, conduct routine laboratory tests, and adjust chemical dosing as required.
  • Maintain comprehensive logs of plant operations, chemical usage, and water production.
SCADA & Communications
  • Program, maintain, and troubleshoot Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and Human‑Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
  • Diagnose and repair telemetry systems, radios, cellular modems, and network communications between field sites and the central control room.
  • Update and manage PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) logic and automation controls.
Instrumentation
  • Calibrate, repair, and replace process instrumentation, including flow meters, pressure transducers, level sensors, and water quality analyzers.
  • Troubleshoot electrical control panels, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and low‑voltage systems.
Pump, Motors, & Valves Maintenance
  • Perform predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance on vertical turbine pumps, submersible pumps, booster pumps, and associated motors.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures, including alignment issues, bearing wear, seal failures, and vibration analysis.
  • Diagnose, remove, and reinstall pumps and motors to ensure optimal efficiency.
  • Service, rebuild, and exercise water control valves to prevent water hammer and ensure system reliability.
Here’s what you’ll need
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience or education in water/wastewater operations combined with hands‑on mechanical and instrumentation maintenance.
  • State‑issued Water Treatment Grade II and Water Distribution Grade II (or ability to acquire within 1 year);
    Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Proficiency with PLC programming, SCADA software (e.g., Ignition), and calibration equipment.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and respond to on‑call/after‑hours emergencies.
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
    Associate’s degree or vocational training in electronics, instrumentation, or industrial mechanics is highly preferred.
  • Microsoft Suite Proficiency, CMMS, HACH RIO, and WIMS.

The base salary range for this position is $49,920.00 to $56,160.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Onsite employees are expected to attend a Jacobs Workplace on a full‑time basis, as required by the nature of their role.
