This position requires the ability to care for both adult and pediatric patients. The ratio of adult and pediatric patients may vary. Clinicians must float to the MST unit when needed. Pediatric/MST is a mixed unit. Clinicians will care for surgical and medical patients, including those with respiratory illnesses and chronic conditions. Total bed capacity is 10, with a patient ratio of 1:3-4 for pediatrics and 1:5 for MST.
Nursing assistants may assist with a patient load of 10. Registered Nurses may be responsible for 3 patients if no nursing assistant is available. High flow oxygen may be administered to stabilize patients before transfer. Remote Monitor Techs are available for adult patients, while bedside monitors are used for pediatric patients. Nurses are expected to read telemetry strips. Mandatory weekend coverage is every other weekend.
Holidays will be rotated fairly among nursing staff. Registered Nurses may float to other units and will require cross-training. Supervisory staff will manage 50 inpatient beds, including various care levels. Scrub color is navy. Nurses will participate in unit-specific orientation based on experience. Requisite skills include strong critical thinking and adaptability in a mixed patient population.
