Position Title: Head Girls Basketball Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director/Principal
Teaching: Teaching positions possibly available
Position Overview: The BMHS Head Girls Basketball Coach is responsible for developing, organizing, and managing all levels and aspects of the high school girls' basketball program, including team management, academic focus, and fostering a positive and competitive athletic environment. The coach will work closely with the Athletic Director, school administration, and other coaching staff to ensure the team’s success both on and off the court.
Key Responsibilities- Team Leadership and
Coaching:
Lead the girls’ basketball team in practices, games, and tournaments. Develop game strategies, drills, and coaching methods that foster the skill development of student-athletes. - Player Development:
Provide guidance and mentorship to student-athletes in improving their basketball skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Encourage a culture of hard work, discipline, and respect. - Game Management:
Oversee the preparation, execution, and analysis of all games, including making strategic decisions, following BMHS and AIA guidelines and ensuring the safety and well-being of the athletes during competition. - Program Administration:
Manage day‑to‑day operations of the basketball program, including organizing practice schedules, coordinating transportation, and handling equipment needs. - Collaboration with Other Staff:
Work closely with assistant coaches, school administration, and athletic department staff to ensure the basketball program is aligned with the school’s mission, values, and athletic goals. - Player Eligibility:
Ensure that all players adhere to the academic eligibility requirements and abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the school, district, and AIA. - Communication:
Maintain open and consistent communication with players, parents, and the athletic department regarding team progress, player development, and any other relevant information. - Fundraising and Community Engagement:
Assist in fundraising efforts, community outreach, and building team morale through support from local organizations and fans.
- Experience:
Previous coaching experience, preferably as a head coach or assistant coach at the high school level. Strong understanding of basketball strategies, techniques, and rules. - Certification:
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain prior to season start).
- Background check and IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- NFHS Coach Level 1.
- NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching.
- NFHS Concussion in Sports.
- NFHS Protecting Students from Abuse.
- NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate, mentor, and guide student-athletes.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, parents, and staff.

Enthusiastic, passionate, and dedicated to fostering the personal and athletic growth of student-athletes. A commitment to sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork.
- Hours:
Practice schedules may vary but generally will be after school hours, including evenings and weekends for games and tournaments. - Physical Demands:
Ability to demonstrate basketball techniques and conduct active coaching during practices and games. Must be able to stand for long periods and move quickly in a fast-paced environment. - Travel:
Travel is required for away games and tournaments.
