Technician, Early Childhood Education Teacher

Under the supervision of the Mentor Teacher, implements a developmentally appropriate program for children ages 3 months to 5 years in accordance with Center policies and procedures. Responsible for maintaining a safe and stimulating educational environment, guiding and modeling behavior for children and college students, implementing lesson plans, record keeping, establishing effective relationships with parents, and promoting a positive classroom environment.

Assists with assessments of children and supervision of college students

Oversees and performs housekeeping duties as needed

Meets regularly and works collaboratively with entire program staff

Minimum Expectations & Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development (or ability to obtain within 12 months) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with children birth through age 5, with at least one years' experience working with children 1 year through 3 years of age
  • Ability to meet the unique developmental and learning needs of toddlers in a nurturing and supportive manner
  • Knowledge and experience developing hands-on activities, encouraging problem-solving, and promoting a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom
  • Experience establishing successful relationships with parents
  • Knowledge of, and respect for, children's individual differences and learning styles
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Regular attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability towards the performance of job duties

Preferred Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience and/or education above the minimum required
  • Ability to structure the environment, use learning materials and plan age-appropriate activities that promote learning in all domains, support children's natural inquisitiveness and foster confidence
  • Experience working with Creative Curriculum
  • Knowledge of learning styles, temperaments and brain research findings as they relate to toddler development and learning
  • Computer knowledge and competence
  • Work experience in a community college/higher education environment

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to supervise a room or playground full of children (which includes distance vision and scanning abilities).
