Manufacturing Engineer
This Manufacturing Engineer role focuses on solving assembly, test, and equipment issues for aircraft radio and audio systems while driving productivity improvements in an aftermarket repair station environment. You will develop and enhance manufacturing and repair processes, support continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure alignment with quality and safety standards. The position requires high-level expertise in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and multiple manufacturing systems, with the expectation that you will meet all minimum performance standards within 90 days.
Responsibilities- Lead and execute process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency in an aftermarket repair station environment.
- Develop, document, and refine manufacturing and repair processes, including work instructions and service instructions, for aircraft radio and audio systems.
- Perform root cause analysis in factory, repair, and supplier environments to resolve assembly, test, and equipment issues.
- Design, commission, and debug process assembly and test equipment to support reliable and repeatable operations.
- Apply electronic component knowledge to support design, troubleshooting, and process optimization activities.
- Interpret and use electronic schematics and PCB assembly drawings to diagnose issues and improve processes.
- Use statistical analysis to evaluate process capabilities and implement data-driven improvements.
- Develop, deploy, and continually improve best practices across manufacturing and repair operations.
- Apply structured problem-solving methods, such as Ishikawa diagrams and Pareto analysis, to identify and address process issues.
- Utilize continuous improvement tools, including DMAIC, PDCA, and Six Sigma, in manufacturing and repair environments.
- Support and follow policies and procedures related to the Quality Management System and applicable certifications such as AS9100C and ISO
9001. - Comply with Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) policies and standards to maintain a safe and compliant workplace.
- Adhere to the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and promote a culture of integrity and accountability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, production, and supply chain, to address part obsolescence, tooling and fixture design, and test equipment specifications.
- Use measurement tools and appropriate standards to verify product and process conformance.
- Perform other engineering and process-related duties as assigned.
- Proven experience in manufacturing engineering, manufacturing processes, or process engineering in a relevant industry.
- High-level knowledge and hands-on experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- High-level knowledge and hands-on experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and multiple manufacturing systems.
- Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement methodologies such as DMAIC, PDCA, and Six Sigma applied in manufacturing or repair environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the use of structured approaches such as Ishikawa and Pareto analysis.
- Ability to develop and maintain work instructions, service instructions, and process documentation.
- Experience with tooling and fixture design and understanding of test equipment specifications.
- Electronic component knowledge and the ability to interpret electronic schematics and PCB assembly drawings.
- Ability to perform statistical analysis on process capabilities and use data to drive improvements.
- Knowledge of J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 standards for soldering and assembly of through-hole and surface-mount components.
- Proficiency in using measurement tools to verify product and process quality.
- Ability to meet all minimum performance and competency standards within 90 days of hire.
Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of product, test equipment, and fixture design for electronic systems.
- Experience in fabrication and PCBA assembly, including PCBA design and component selection.
- Familiarity with RF (radio frequency) systems and applications, with RF experience preferred.
- Lab View skills to support test automation and data acquisition, preferred but not required.
- Knowledge and application of the Y14.5M tolerancing standard for engineering drawings.
- Experience working in an FAA Part 145 repair station environment is a plus.
- Knowledge and use of 3D CAD software, such as Solid Works, is a plus.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
