About the Role
The Prescott, Arizona Campus Safety & Security Department is hiring Armed Safety Officers to support campus safety for students, faculty, staff, and guests.
Job Duties- Maintain a highly visible presence on campus through vehicle and foot patrols.
- Respond to calls for service, including security, mental health, medical, and fire incidents.
- Conduct preliminary field investigations of low‑to‑moderate scope.
- Complete required University and Department‑specific training.
- Use departmental software systems (CAD, CCTV, Access Control, communications, Microsoft Office).
- Provide support for special events and sporting events on campus.
- Represent the campus in community events aligned with the department’s community policing philosophy.
- Work extended hours and overtime as needed.

The hourly rate is $18.00, with a $2.50 armed differential and a $1.50 shift differential. Final offer may vary based on qualifications and internal equity.
Qualifications- High School Diploma (or GED);
Associate’s Degree preferred. - Three years of recent armed professional experience (law enforcement, military, or private security) within the last 10 years.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Physical ability: extended standing, stair climbing, running, lifting heavy objects, moderate defensive tactics training.
- Pass and maintain department firearms qualification; proficiency expected above DPS standard; complete DPS and Department Firearms Diagnostic Course within 90 days of hire.
- Obtain DPS armed guard card within 90 days of hire.
- Pass background investigation, psychological screening, and hold a valid driver’s license with acceptable record.
- Continued employment contingent on meeting all training, background, and armed guard card requirements.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license;
Class C CDL may be required in some cases. - Meet university driver standards; history of at‑fault accidents or violations as specified may disqualify.
- Serious driving violations (e.g., impaired driving, hit and run) result in immediate disqualification.
