Summary The position is located in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) at the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System (NA V ARCS) in Prescott, AZ. It is part of the Maintenance and Operation Section of Facilities Management Service. The primary purpose of the Maintenance Supervisor is to perform journeyman pipefitter and plumber work.

Experience:

No specific length of training and experience is required, but applicants must provide evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties. This evidence should be supported by detailed descriptions on the resume. Applicants will be rated according to the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Screen‑out element:
The initial evaluation will use the screen‑out element (usually question 1 in the online questionnaire). Only candidates who meet the minimal acceptable qualification will be considered further. Remaining job elements evaluated are:
Equipment Assembly – Installation – Repair, Interpret Instructions – Specifications (including blueprint reading), Measurement and Layout, Technical Practices, Troubleshooting, Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.

Preferred Experience:

Plumbing and pipe fitting/steam systems operations and repair. Commercial experience preferred. Handyman or residential plumber experience will not be considered. Experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work through National Service programs or other organizations. Volunteer work can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. All qualifying experience will be credited.

Duties
  • The journeyman pipefitter and plumber performs alterations, construction, repairs, and modification of high temperature water and high‑pressure piping systems such as hydraulic, nitrogen, oxygen, steam heating, and steam‑generating systems; utility supply and disposal systems; fixtures and fittings; and equipment such as sewage, water, gas, and oil lines, compressed air, vacuum, and acid systems; water closets, water heaters, hydrants, valves, and pumps.

    Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Work Schedule:

    Monday – Friday, 08:00 am – 04:30 pm. Position Description Title/PD#:

  • Physical Requirements:

    Work requires good coordination and good physical condition. Incumbent must walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in uncomfortable positions; pull, reach over, and lift supplies and/or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Incumbent must work from ladders, scaffolds, platforms, and in hard‑to‑reach places.
