Canyon Aero Connect is a leading supplier of aircraft communication, navigation, and audio/intercom systems for civilian, military, law enforcement, EMS, SAR, and other fixed-wing and rotorcraft applications. Our products include radio/audio management systems, Tac/Com, VHF/UHF radio systems, intercoms, data interfaces, and aural warning systems.

Position Summary

The Lead Service Technician is a hands-on working lead responsible for coordinating daily Service Technician activities to support safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery. This position provides technical direction, assigns and prioritizes work, removes workflow barriers, mentors technicians, and supports compliance with FAA Part 145 Repair Station requirements. The Lead performs technical work while promoting continuous improvement using Theory of Constraints (TOC) and Lean principles.

Key Responsibilities

Workflow & Throughput

  • Monitor repair, testing, and certification workflows to identify and address constraints.
  • Prioritize resources and work assignments to maximize throughput and minimize unnecessary work-in-process.
  • Recommend improvements to tooling, training, staffing, and processes that improve workflow and capacity.

FAA Compliance & Quality

  • Verify maintenance, alterations, inspections, and documentation comply with applicable FAA Parts 43 and 145 requirements and approved technical data.
  • Verify technicians use current OEM manuals, Service Bulletins, and FAA-approved data.
  • Support proper component tagging, segregation, work packages, and required maintenance documentation.

Technical & Team Leadership

  • Assign and prioritize daily work based on technician qualifications, workload, and production priorities.
  • Perform complex troubleshooting, calibration, testing, and repair of avionics/electronic equipment.
  • Provide technical direction, training, coaching, and mentoring to technicians.
  • Promote OSHA, FOD, ESD, quality, and shop safety requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day work direction without direct supervisory authority.

Resource Coordination

  • Coordinate availability of parts, tooling, and calibrated equipment required to complete work.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance and management to resolve equipment, calibration, capability, and workflow constraints.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on avionics/electronics troubleshooting, repair, testing, or installation experience, including 1–2 years of technical leadership experience.
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate or applicable FAA Repairman Certificate preferred, or ability to obtain within an established timeframe.
  • Working knowledge of FAA Parts 43 and 145, or demonstrated ability to quickly develop proficiency.
  • Knowledge of electronics theory, schematics, hardware, diagnostic data, and electronic test equipment.
  • Proficiency in soldering and surface-mount component repair.
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and train, coach, and mentor technicians.
  • Willingness to learn and apply TOC, Lean, Takt Time, and bottleneck management principles.
  • Computer proficiency required; FCC license preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
