Job Summary:

The technical repair and parts promotion series was designed to hire candidates at various levels of expertise. Employees within the technician series are expected to diagnose, repair and conduct maintenance activities on various types of vehicles and equipment which includes, light, medium and heavy duty vehicles/equipment across the State of Arizona. Employees in the promotional program must complete specific training requirements in order to promote into the next level within the series.

Equipment Repair Technician: $24.7087/hr

Perform minor to medium oriented repairs and diagnostic work, perform maintenance tasks on various types of vehicles and equipment including, light,medium and heavy duty equipment.

Equipment Repair Technician Intermediate: $27.1409/hr

Perform diagnosing and repairing gasoline/diesel engines, transmissions, front and rear drive axle assemblies, suspension components, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other associated components on a wide variety of automotive or heavy construction equipment.

Equipment Repair Technician Senior: $31.2038/hr

Repair, service and maintain vehicles and equipment in all three disciplines: light, medium, heavy truck and heavy off-road construction equipment.

Employees hired into this series must complete specific training requirements in order to promote into the next classification level within the series.

Job Duties:

Inspects a variety of vehicles/equipment, to identify repairs and adjustments necessary for safe operation.

Performs scheduled preventive maintenance services, including lube and oil change, tire repair and mounting, and minor repairs/adjustments.

Interpreting manufacturer specifications.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Power/drive train system inspection, diagnosis and repair procedures.
  • Electrical systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
  • Electronic control systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
  • Computerized diagnostic analyzer use procedures and practices.
  • Hydraulic systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
  • Operating principles of gasoline and diesel powered internal combustion engines.
  • Fleet maintenance shop safety principles and practices.
  • Record keeping principles and practices.

Skill in:

  • Repairing and maintaining mechanical, electrical, electronic and automotive/heavy construction equipment.
  • Operating computerized diagnostic analyzer equipment.
  • Estimating time cost of repair maintenance work for a wide variety of automotive/heavy construction equipment.
  • Scheduling/coordinating automotive/heavy construction equipment service and repair to maximize utilization.
  • Repairing, rebuilding, and overhauling mechanical, electrical, electronic, and/or hydraulic systems in a wide variety of automotive/light/heavy construction equipment.

Ability to:

  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Interpret repair manuals, service bulletins and recall bulletins.
  • Utilize a PC and PC programs such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Manage time effectively.
  • Diagnose issues quickly and accurately, and determine the best course of action to fix them.
  • Prioritize tasks efficiently, especially in high-demand environments where equipment downtime needs to be minimized.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull 90 lbs; pass a physical exam.
