Overview
University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology beginning September 1, 2026 for an academic year (9 month) appointment, with potential opportunities for summer teaching. The successful candidate will primarily teach undergraduate courses in Psychology (area of expertise open). Candidates who can teach courses in animal behavior, biological psychology, sensation and perception, or cognitive psychology are preferred.
Responsibilities will encompass course instruction and development, advising, engaging in campus and professional service, and fostering opportunities for undergraduate experiential learning. We seek a dedicated professional with a passion for teaching and a commitment to career growth.
The work schedule for this on-campus position will be variable based on the teaching schedule and research demands. Work beyond regular hours (which may include nights and weekends) will be necessary to meet the requirements of the position. Regular office hours on campus will be established.
The salary for Assistant Professor is $64,711. A University of Maine System transfer rate may be considered in accordance with UMS policies. Key Responsibilities- Deliver a minimum of four courses, or equivalent, per semester at both introductory and advanced levels, employing a blend of traditional and innovative modalities (competency-based, online, hyflex, and/or in-person).
- Actively contribute to the academic community through campus and professional service endeavors.
- Assist in the development, instruction, and administration of undergraduate psychology program.
- Develop initiatives that involve undergraduate students, potentially leading to independent projects or conference presentations/publications.
- A doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD or PSYD) or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Doctoral candidates who are ABD and plan to defend their dissertation prior to Aug. 31, 2026 will be considered.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to collaborate within the academic community and engage with external stakeholders
- Proficiency in utilizing innovative teaching methods and technology to enhance student learning experiences, including online instruction
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
- PhD in Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, or Behavioral Neuroscience with an ability to teach/develop courses that will complement and supplement existing areas of faculty expertise.
- At least 1 year of teaching experience with various delivery modalities
- Demonstrated record of campus or community service
