Mobile Air Conditioning Engineer – North West Fire & Rescue Contract

The role is permanent full‑time (40 hours per week) based in Preston, covering 16 fire stations across Merseyside, Lancashire and Cumbria. The successful candidate will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, statutory and mandatory compliance across the North West Fire and Rescue properties, and will work closely with service users and client representatives.

Qualifications and experience

Recognised apprenticeship/NVQ qualification and/or at least 5 years of hands‑on air‑conditioning repair and installation experience within the Buildings Services Industry
FGas & ODS regulations certification – mandatory
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (6087) or equivalent
Experience in a similar role/environment – essential
Full clean driving licence
Computer literacy – Word, Excel, email, internet
Initiative and independent working ability
Knowledge of SHEQ procedures, risk assessments, work permits, etc.

Main duties and responsibilities

Apply relevant trade skills to undertake scheduled, planned and reactive maintenance tasks on HVAC plant and equipment, ensuring all work meets high standards of workmanship and safety.

Investigate, troubleshoot and rectify defects in all ventilation systems and associated plant/components. Maintain daily record‑keeping and clearly state any required parts.

Maintain up‑to‑date qualifications and trade knowledge as required for safe and efficient performance.

Liaise with client representatives and resolve any arising matters.

Immediately report any potentially dangerous situations to management.

Ensure prompt and accurate completion of all required paperwork.

Fulfil health and safety responsibilities by adhering to company policies.

Comply with all applicable standards, policies and procedures, including safety procedures and maintaining a clean work area.

Keep the Fgas register up to date with any changes relating to install and reactive works.

Perform other duties appropriate to the level and character of the work as required; significant changes may require agreed revisions.

Additional duty:
Participate in the on‑call rota and occasional out‑of‑normal working hour activities.
