Vleissentraal is seeking an experienced and analytical Credit Controller to play a key role in protecting the business through effective credit risk management and the administration of its credit control function.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing customer creditworthiness, reviewing and monitoring credit facilities, managing credit risk, and supporting branches in the consistent application of the company's credit policies and procedures. The role contributes to maintaining a healthy debtors book while supporting sustainable business growth.
This opportunity is ideally suited to a finance professional with strong analytical skills, sound commercial judgement and experience in credit control. The ideal candidate will demonstrate integrity, attention to detail, excellent relationship-building skills and a proactive approach to managing credit risk and supporting the business.
Key Responsibilities1) Credit Assessment and Customer Vetting
- Conduct credit assessments for new and existing customers
- Analyse financial statements, credit bureau reports, payment history, and trading behaviour
- Evaluate customer creditworthiness and recommend appropriate credit limits and payment terms
- Perform daily credit checks and process new credit applications
- Ensure all applications comply with company credit policies and procedures
- Review and monitor customer credit limits based on financial performance and payment history
- Conduct scheduled credit reviews and recommend increases, reductions, or withdrawal of credit facilities
- Process branch requests for temporary or permanent credit limit adjustments
- Assist with held-order releases within the delegated authority framework
- Prepare and maintain credit application status reports daily and monthly.
- Produce weekly debtors reporting for the Credit Manager, covering age analysis, overdue exposure, held orders and high-risk accounts.
- Prepare weekly cash collection forecasts in conjunction with the branch debtors clerks, and track actual collections against forecast.
- Identify and flag high-risk accounts to minimise potential losses, and recommend remedial action (reduced terms, cash basis, suspension of supply, handover).
- Monitor the age analysis in conjunction with branches and escalat
- Maintain complete and accurate credit files and supporting documentation for all decisions.
- Build strong relationships with clients and branches to ensure ongoing co-operation.
- Support branch debtors clerks with credit-related queries, account openings and the application of the credit policy.
- Provide guidance and oversight to junior staff in the credit application function.
- Assist the Credit Manager with ad hoc projects and duties.
- Grade 12 / Matric (or equivalent)
- Finance qualification will be advantageous
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in credit control and accounts receivable
- Strong understanding of credit analysis and credit risk assessment
- Ability to interpret financial statements and credit reports
- Experience working on ERP or accounting systems
- Knowledge of credit documentation, terms and conditions, and applicable credit legislation
- Previous experience within the agricultural or fresh produce sector would be beneficial but is not essential
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills
